In "Extreme" verarbeitet die Künstlerin Eindrücke,
die sie während eines Aufenthaltes in mehreren Ländern
Mittelamerikas gewann.
Intervention. Aneignung. Integration. Assimilation.
Die Künstlerin setzt sich umfassend mit den Auswirkungen
äußerer Einflüsse auf die lokale Identität auseinander.
Sie beleuchtet dabei sowohl die Situation der Gesellschaft
als auch die des Individuums. Sie stellt dabei die Frage,
welche Elemente diese neu entstehenden Identitäten
definieren.
Die Ausstellung zeigt Malerei, Grafik, und Installation.

The exhibit of young Berlin artists - Intimacy and Alienation at the Museo de Arte de El Salvador / Art Museum of El Salvador (MARTE) was tremendously well received. Twenty two pieces offered the people of San Salvador an impression of the variety of forms of expression being pursued currently by young artists in Berlin. This project was initiated by the German Embassy in San Salvador and is taking place due to the generous support of the Embassy, MARTE, DHL & others. Conception and curator: Wendy Bell.

My work deals with perception and identity. I am interested the fluidity and changeability of perceptions and the visceral connection we seem to have to our own point of view. It is an exploration of external conflict borne of unrecognized internal dissonance. The resulting character comprised of part nature, part nurture, and part sum of accumulated life experience fascinates me. Consider internal processing and self awareness. The outcome varies dramatically when differing amounts of self-reflection are applied to a similar background and set of experiences. How changeable are we really? When? And why? How much of our identity is given and how much do we develop it? How much is true to our core and is an intentional and considered response, and how much reflects learned desires and behaviors, acted out upon the stage of the larger community due to blind acceptance or an inability or unwillingness to critically assess the situation? I am concerned with how intimate decisions affect not only the life of the individual, but on a larger scale can and do affect the lives of millions of others, and am interested in looking at the range of different approaches and results of how the weight of this responsibility is either recognized and confronted or denied.

Statement
Den Rohstoff für meine Arbeiten (Schwerpunkt Holzschnitt) ziehe ich aus vielschichtigen Themen und persönlichen Erfahrungen. Im Werkprozess verarbeite ich diese Informationen, reagiere auf Dinge, die ich gesehen, gehört oder gefühlt habe. Mein besonderes Interesse gilt dabei den menschlichen Emotionen - oft innere oder zwischenmenschliche Konflikte - sowie den unzähligen möglichen Interpretationen eines Ereignisses. Um diese Themen in einem Werk zum Ausdruck zu bringen, dienen Elemente aus Landschaft und Natur, Merkmale des menschlichen Köpers sowie architektonische Strukturen und Details als wiederkehrende Quellen der Bildersymbolik. Holz ist als lebendiger Werkstoff für meine Arbeit besonders reizvoll und ich genieße es, die natürlichen Eigenschaften und Unebenheiten in meine Werke zu integrieren.
